Arthroplasty - Replacement of large joints

Alongside comprehensive trauma management, the department particularly focuses on the surgical treatment of degenerative joint diseases via replacementof the large joints: shoulder, hip and knee.

In the event of joint disease, the first step is to ascertain whether or not the joint can be preserved. If joint damage is too severe, however, such a treatment is no longer reasonable. In this case, joint replacement surgery is necessary. Joint replacement involves the removal of the destroyed joint segments and their replacement via artificial joint implants.
