Stroke Unit
In order to ensure the best possible treatment for stroke patients from our region, we established a Stroke Unit at Klinikum Landkreis Erding on 1 June 2013. The availability of a neurologist specialising in stroke treatment on 365 days a year round the clock is guaranteed through our connection to the TEMPiS project (Telemedical Project for Integrated Stroke Management in South-East Bavaria). This TEMPiS team consisting of the Stroke Centre in Munich-Harlaching and Regensburg University Hospital already provides advice to 15 regional hospitals via a digital network. The Stroke Unit at Klinikum Erding is additionally funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Health.
Immediately after admission and production of a cerebral CT scan, a stroke expert is contacted, who can take a look at the patient via video conference and examine the patient together with the local physician. At the same time, the patient’s CT scans are transmitted digitally within just a few seconds. This allows for deciding within minutes whether a thrombolysis therapy (treatment to dissolve thrombi) is indicated. The patient is then transferred to the Stroke Unit, where he or she is taken care of by a team of physicians, physical therapists, ergotherapists and speech therapists and where he or she stays until discharge or transfer. At the same time, the patient is also examined and monitored by internists. A defined further training concept is in place for the entire team. In order to ensure a high quality level, we participate in external quality assurance audits. This makes it possible to achieve a consistently high standard of stroke treatment and a considerable improvement in the medical care of stroke patients.
